Navigating Life's Terrain: Trusting in God's Plan, Path, and Pace

written by Jennifer Edewaard

In the journey of life, throughout our everyday moments, one constant remains—God's unwavering presence. It is in the assurance that His plan, path, and pace are the anchors we can rest in. Even when the road is longer or more rugged than we anticipated, we find solace in the belief that His way is superior, surpassing any earthly conditions, for in the midst of it, we are with Him.

Isaiah 55:6 calls us to "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.” We are to seek God in the midst of our journey, amidst the desolate places and rugged terrains.

Stepping Stones in Desolate Places

"The Lord is my shepherd, I have what I need." (Psalm 23:1) He is not just a shepherd; He is our shepherd, and in Him, we find everything we need. Clinging to this truth, we navigate the path He sets before us, knowing He is with us every step of the way.

What if the desolate places we encounter are stepping stones toward His intended path? What if the rugged terrain is meant to propel us into a deeper dependence on Him? When trials grip the trails, appearing as insurmountable boulders, the only recourse is to surrender it all to Him. In the face of waning endurance, encroaching grief, and threatening despair, His power unfolds—faith in Him sustains and prevails.

The Power of Focus

Our direction is determined by what our eyes are fixed on, our heart's desires, and the focus of our mind. Perhaps weariness clouds your vision today, or your heart and mind are preoccupied with something other than Him. In such moments, remember that He is the shepherd leading beside still waters, providing a perspective in the valley that only He can offer.

"I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go." (Genesis 28:15) His promises are steadfast, and when we dwell in who He is, entrusting ourselves to Him, we gain an eternal perspective. In the stretching, refining, suffering, and growing, He is at work, propelling us into a faith that depends solely on Him.

Pressing On in Faith

The journey He invites us to is not promised to be easy. There are times when we question our ability to go on, feeling the trek is insurmountable. Yet, remember, the One who has gone before you can comfort you now. He sees you, He will never leave you, and He has walked the path before you.

From the depths of valleys to the tops of mountains, may each step draw us closer to Him. In the uneven ground and rugged places, trust that no matter what the terrain holds, surely God is in this place. Draw near, lift your weary neck, drink from the living water, gain strength from the bread of life, and press on. He is faithful, always setting the land before us, fighting for us, carrying us, showing us the way, and dwelling with us.

As we traverse life's terrain, may we always see His goodness, trusting that every step brings us closer to the One who guides our path.
