While my family lived in Austin, Texas, we went to the Austin Stone Community Church. It was a pivotal point in our walk with Jesus. We left the Midwest, our families, everything we had ever known as young 20-somethings with our 1 year-old in tow. I remember being terrified and wondering “Why did God bring us here? What is He doing with us?!” As my dad, brother, and a few friends drove away and left us standing in our apartment parking lot, I sobbed. But my husband, being full of wisdom, looked at me and said, “We’re going to church.”
Believe me, that’s the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to curl up in a ball, under the sheets of my bed, and cry the day away! But, my husband’s idea was better. Have you ever been there?
What we found when entering the doors at ASCC, was community, Biblical teaching, and a place where we would be ministered to in ways we never imagined.
The Austin Stone recently went through the book of Ephesians and, while there are many sermons in this series you should listen to, I have one that is a MUST. Spirit Filled Parenting.
Halim Suh brings truth, application, and encouragement through God’s Word. He uses verse after verse to bring every day application to what we, as parents, face on a daily basis. It is a sermon that I could (and probably should) listen to regularly to remind myself of God’s truth in an area where I can be short-tempered and selfish.
