So, I realized something a few days ago…
This time last year, the 4 of us ETCH girls sat at a table together and felt like God was forming us as a team. We began dreaming about ETCH — what it looked like, how we felt God was moving and directing us, and where we saw it going. Over this past year, God has grown it to be something beautiful. Not because it’s a large, successful company (because it’s not yet), but because He is using the 4 of us in ways we never dreamed or imagined. He’s using our products and community to change lives and bring people closer to Jesus. Every day we are laying ETCH — our plans, our dreams, and our vision — at the feet of Jesus because we want this to be about Him…not us. God is the one who planted the idea of ETCH, so we want Him to be in control.
While praying through the direction of ETCH, we tend to put God in a box. We ask for things that we have confidence that He can do or that we feel is in our comfort zone. By doing this, we are basically telling God what He can and cannot do. But, to think outside that box is scary. It’s vulnerable and unknown and there is a chance we could fail, which is something none of us want to experience.
But God…He is bigger than our failures. Bigger than our imperfections. Bigger than what we’re capable of doing.
You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
The very place we are in is no accident. God has hemmed us into this very moment. It is no accident or mistake. It’s His plan. If He calls us out onto the waters, we must go. Even when it doesn’t make sense. Even when we don’t feel like we have the capacity or the skill set. Even when there is a chance of failure.
God is calling us to be strong and courageous right now. We are trusting God with every step. Here we are — one year after forming as a team — and we just got our first order from a national retail store!!!! It is so wild. We are so humbled that God would call us to this. Our products just launched in October and now we are selling to a major retail store! This was not part of our original “plan.” We didn’t do anything to make this happen…God did. God brought the opportunity into our laps, so we walked out onto the waters. Every day we look at each other and say, “This doesn’t make sense! We only launched a few months ago!” If we relied on our own strength, we would have quit there. It doesn’t make sense. But God has other plans. This is His plan and the direction He has for us. For ETCH to be an E-commerce shop and in retail stores is mind-blowing for us. It’s out of our comfort zone, which is beautiful because it forces us to trust God with every step.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.Joshua 1:9
Every minute of every day, God is calling us all to BE COURAGEOUS. To step out when we don’t want to or we’re too afraid. To trust Him with EVERYTHING. God continues to call us ETCH girls out on the waters. There are more opportunities in the pipeline with other retailers. We continue to trust Him as He brings the opportunities our way. It’s scary and unknown, but it’s in those moments that we see God move the most. When we rely on His strength — and not our own — we can boldly go where He is calling us.
What is God calling you to? What is it in your life that you are not trusting God with and relying on your own strength instead of His?
