keeping our priorities straight

Posted by myetchedlife on

Parenting is hard.  Some days I am joyful and relying on the Holy Spirit.  Other days I’m pulling out my hair and screaming at the top of my lungs.  It’s ugly.

It is the one thing in my life that consistently drives me to the Lord.  I cannot do it on my own — even though sometimes I try.

I recently had one of those days.  I was feeling the weight of all I needed to get done — laundry, a few work projects, dinner, packing for a trip…does the list ever end?!?  My 9-year-old sensed it.  Of course, I was too preoccupied with my own “to do” list to recognize it.

(tap, tap on my shoulder) “Mom, if it won’t stress you out too much, could you help me with this?”  (enter the feeling of being punched in the gut)

I realized in that brief moment that I was losing my focus.  I was letting the tasks of life overshadow and take over the blessings in my life.  People matter more than tasks.  My sweet 9-year-old’s heart matters more than me checking off my “to do” list.

And, while this is my story, I have a feeling I’m not alone.  I have a feeling that there are other moms and dads out there that struggle with the same priority shift that I do.  We all need help.

So, below are two blogs to help you in this journey of parenting for today.  These have spoken truth to me.  They have helped me refocus on what’s most important in my life.  I pray they will do the same for you.
